Wilkinsburg, PA (November 2025) – Eight people were injured Thursday night after a violent five-vehicle collision at the intersection of Penn Avenue and East Swissvale Avenue. We extend our sincere thoughts to all those harmed and hope each person makes a full recovery.
Emergency crews arrived around 10 p.m., finding multiple damaged vehicles, including one that had rolled onto its side and several injured occupants. Multiple police units and ambulances responded to treat victims and secure the scene.
According to the Pittsburgh Police, the incident began when detectives conducted a traffic stop earlier in the evening at a separate location. The driver fled, and officers did not pursue, per department policy. Police later encountered the same fleeing vehicle after it collided with four other vehicles in Wilkinsburg.
Pittsburgh City Councilman Khari Mosley, who represents District 9, stated he was on the scene and confirmed that officers followed the city’s non-pursuit policy before the crash occurred. Police have not yet identified the fleeing driver or disclosed the reason for the initial stop.
An emergency dispatcher reported eight total injuries, though police noted that none were life-threatening. The crash remains under investigation.
Rights After Multi-Vehicle Collisions Involving Police Encounters
Crashes triggered by drivers fleeing police stops can create complex liability questions involving the fleeing driver and insurance coverage. Whether policies were properly followed. Pennsylvania law allows injured victims to pursue compensation for medical costs, lost wages, and long-term trauma even when the at-fault driver flees or causes widespread damage.
Multi-vehicle collisions often require extensive investigation, including reconstruction data, surveillance footage, and witness statements to determine full accountability.
