Braylynn S. Fahy (30) Killed in Fatal Two-Vehicle Crash

Albany, NY (December 1, 2025) – A two-vehicle collision on the New York State Thruway (I-90) near Exit 24 in Albany resulted in the death of Braylynn S. Fahy (30) of Fort Plain, according to New York State Police.

The incident occurred at approximately 6:45 p.m. on December 1, 2025. An investigation determined that Ms. Fahy was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse and merged onto I-90 westbound from the Exit 24 acceleration ramp. Ms. Fahy’s vehicle then crossed all lanes of traffic and was struck by a westbound 2025 Cadillac Escalade traveling in the left lane.

Ms. Fahy was transported to Albany Medical Center, where she was later pronounced deceased. The driver of the Escalade and all passengers in both vehicles, including three minors, were also transported to local hospitals with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

The fatal crash shut down I-87 northbound traffic, which was diverted off Exit 24 while police investigated the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.

Understanding Liability After a Fatal Car Accident in New York

When a fatal car accident occurs, New York State law allows the family of the deceased to pursue a Wrongful Death claim to recover compensation for their losses. In this type of collision, the central legal question will be determining which driver, if any, breached their duty of care.

New York is a “pure comparative negligence” state. This means that if multiple parties share fault for the accident, the injured person’s (or the deceased person’s estate’s) right to recover is not barred, but their percentage of fault will reduce the amount of compensation awarded. For example, if a court finds the deceased driver was 60% at fault for the accident, the award recovered by their family or estate would be reduced by 60%. Because the investigation indicates the deceased’s vehicle crossed multiple lanes of traffic, determining the precise degree of fault will be a crucial and complex step in any potential claim.
