[03-17-2025] – Bus Carrying Bagpipers Crashes into Parked Truck Near I-84 in Mount Cobb, PA

Mount Cobb, PA – A charter bus transporting members of the Greater Scranton Black Diamonds Pipe Band crashed into an unoccupied tractor-trailer Sunday evening, injuring 17 people, according to Pennsylvania State Police and local fire officials.
The crash happened just before 6:30 PM on March 23, 2025, as the bus exited westbound Interstate 84 in Jefferson Township near Mount Cobb. According to Jefferson Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Mike Shaffer, the bus collided with a parked tractor-trailer, which had no one inside at the time.
Seventeen passengers on board suffered minor injuries and were transported to area hospitals for evaluation. The bus was returning from a St. Patrick’s Day parade in Milford, officials confirmed.
The crash did not appear to be weather-related, and the incident remains under investigation.
“Thankfully, everyone is expected to recover fully,” said Bill Hetherson, business manager for the Greater Scranton Black Diamonds Pipe Band.
