[03-21-2025] – Fatal Hit-and-Run on I-80: Connecticut Man Killed in Butler Township

Butler Township, PA – A Connecticut man was killed Friday afternoon in a fatal hit-and-run crash on Interstate 80 East near mile marker 257 in Butler Township, Luzerne County. Pennsylvania State Police are actively investigating the incident.
According to police, the crash occurred around 2:30 PM on March 21, 2025. The victim, a 53-year-old man from Hartford, Connecticut, was outside his disabled commercial vehicle when he was struck by an eastbound commercial vehicle that fled the scene.
Emergency responders transported the man via Life Flight to Geisinger Wyoming Valley, where he succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
PennDOT reported that I-80 Eastbound was temporarily closed between Exit 256 (PA 93 – Nescopeck/Conyngham) and Exit 260A (I-81 South – Harrisburg) but has since reopened.
Pennsylvania State Police were assisted by Sugarloaf Township and Conyngham Borough Police Departments, Sugarloaf Fire Department, and Lehigh Valley EMS.
