Gates, NY – Person Freed After Crash Involving Tractor-Trailer on Lyell Avenue

Crews free person from car after crash

Gates, N.Y. (November 26, 2025) – A person was trapped inside a vehicle following a three-way collision involving two cars and a tractor-trailer on Lyell Avenue and I-390 in Gates on Wednesday evening, just after 5:30 p.m.

The crash resulted in one person being trapped inside the wreckage. The Gates Fire District responded quickly and took crews only three minutes to force open the door and free the trapped victim.

Though fire officials stated all injuries appeared minor, and the person was taken to the hospital as a precaution, any time a person must be physically rescued from a wrecked vehicle, the risk of hidden injuries, like internal trauma or latent soft tissue issues, is present.

Understanding Liability After a Multi-Vehicle Truck Crash in New York

An accident involving a large tractor-trailer and multiple passenger vehicles immediately introduces a higher level of liability. Trucking cases are different from standard car accidents because they involve federal trucking regulations, including those from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA).

Liability in a multi-vehicle truck crash can extend beyond the immediate drivers to the trucking company itself (under the principle of vicarious liability), maintenance providers, or cargo loaders. Furthermore, New York is a pure comparative negligence state. This means that if you are injured, your compensation is never completely barred, even if you share some percentage of fault for the incident; your percentage of responsibility reduces your final award.
