Eden, NY (Oct. 24, 2026) – The town of Eden Police Department is investigating a crash at the intersection of Sisson Highway and North Boston Road that killed a 77-year-old man from Boston on the morning of October 24.
According to the department, the crash occurred shortly after 10:30 a.m. Preliminary investigation and witness accounts found that a sedan was traveling east on North Boston Road. The sedan, operated by a 50-year-old woman from Hamburg, failed to yield the right of way to a vehicle traveling north on Sisson Highway.
That vehicle was operated by the 77-year-old man, who was its sole occupant. He sustained critical injuries in the collision. He was pronounced dead shortly after being transported to an area hospital.
The woman and two children who were occupants in her vehicle also sustained injuries and were transported to an area hospital. The intersection remained closed for several hours while the scene was processed, and the crash remains under investigation.
This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.
What to Do After a Fatal Intersection Crash in Erie County
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that 8,019 people age 65 and older were killed in traffic crashes in 2024, or 20 percent of all traffic fatalities. Behind every figure is a family dealing with grief and paperwork at once. A few early steps can protect both the family and the facts.
- Ask the Town of Eden Police Department for the crash report number and where to request the report once it is released.
- Anyone hurt in the crash, including children, should keep seeing a doctor after discharge, since some injuries surface days later.
- File written notice with your own no-fault insurer within 30 days of the crash, which means by November 23, 2026.
- Ask in writing that the vehicles involved not be released, repaired, or sold for salvage, since their damage and data can show how the crash happened.
- Choose one family member to take insurance calls, and do not give a recorded statement or sign a release before you understand your rights.
- Keep every hospital, ambulance, and funeral bill, order several certified copies of the death certificate, and hold off on posting about the crash online.
