Webster, NY – One Injured in Motorcycle vs. Car Crash at Route 104 and Basket Road

Webster, NY - One Seriously Hurt in Motorcycle vs Car Crash at Route 104 and Basket Road

Webster, NY (Oct. 8, 2026) – At least one person was seriously hurt in a crash involving a motorcycle and a car at the intersection of Route 104 and Basket Road, according to New York State Police.

Troopers said the crash happened in the town of Webster and was reported on October 8, 2026. Eastbound Route 104 was closed after the collision but has since reopened.

A neighbor who lives near the intersection said he heard the crash from his living room and looked out the window immediately. He said he thought two cars had collided, then went outside to see what had happened. He said he saw responders performing CPR on a motorcyclist in the middle of the road.

The same neighbor, who asked not to be named, said a white vehicle had been smashed in what looked almost like a T-bone. He added that the intersection faces frequent crashes because of a nearby blind spot.

State Police have not released the number of people hurt beyond the one serious injury, and no names or ages have been made public. Troopers said more information will be released when it becomes available.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

Steps to Take After a Motorcycle Collision in Webster, NY

New York recorded 4,681 personal injury motorcycle crashes in 2024, and 189 motorcyclists died that year, according to the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research at the University at Albany. New York also requires every rider and passenger to wear an approved helmet under Vehicle and Traffic Law § 381.

What a rider or a rider’s family does in the first days can shape everything that follows.

  • Get a full medical evaluation the same day, because internal injuries and concussions can surface hours later.
  • Request the State Police crash report number and the name of the investigating trooper.
  • Keep the helmet, jacket, gloves and boots exactly as they are, and do not repair the bike yet.
  • Photograph the road surface, the lane markings and the sight lines from both approaches to the intersection.
  • Write down the names and phone numbers of anyone who stopped at the scene, including neighbors.
  • File the no-fault application with your own insurer in writing within 30 days of the crash date.
  • Decline a recorded statement to the other driver’s insurer until you have had advice.

Intersection Sight Lines and Road Conditions in New York Crash Claims

Most motorcycle crashes at a surface intersection come down to right of way. When a car and a motorcycle meet at a crossing like Route 104 and Basket Road, investigators look at who had the green or the clear approach, what each driver could see, and how fast each vehicle was moving.

A blind spot or an obstructed sight line adds a second question. If a sign, a slope, overgrown brush or a signal timing problem kept drivers from seeing each other, the public authority responsible for the road can share liability. Route 104 is a state highway, which puts those claims in the New York Court of Claims.

Nothing in this case has been decided. State Police have not said who had the right of way, and no citation or charge has been announced.

  • Who may be liable: the driver of the car, the motorcyclist, or the state agency responsible for the road and its sight lines.
  • What decides it: the trooper’s reconstruction, scene photos taken before any repair, prior crash records for the same intersection, and maintenance or complaint files.
  • Comparative fault: in a New York motor vehicle claim, recovery is barred when the injured person’s share of fault equals or exceeds the combined fault of the defendants.
  • Deadlines: a personal injury suit must generally be filed within three years, by October 8, 2029 (CPLR § 214). A claim against the State runs on a 90-day clock, which falls on January 6, 2027 (Court of Claims Act § 10).
