Glenville, NY - One Dead Following Motorcycle vs Car Collision on Route 50

Glenville, NY (Oct. 15, 2026) – One person is dead after a car and a motorcycle collided on Saratoga Road (State Route 50) in Glenville on the afternoon of October 15, according to the Glenville Police Department.

Police said the collision happened at about 3:13 p.m. between High Mills Scotch Bush Road and Kingsbury Road. A motorcycle was traveling north on Saratoga Road when a car pulled out from Kingsbury Road in its path, according to police. The operator of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have not released the identity of the motorcyclist. The identity of the car’s driver is also being withheld due to their age, police said.

The crash remains under investigation. Saratoga Road is closed from High Mills Scotch Bush Road to Lake Hill Road while the reconstruction investigation continues, and police are advising drivers to avoid the area.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

What Families Can Do After a Fatal Motorcycle Crash in New York

In 2023, 194 people died in motorcycle crashes in New York, or 17.5 percent of all traffic deaths, according to the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. The committee’s figures come from the Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research.

The committee also says a motorist’s failure to yield remains the leading contributing factor in two-vehicle motorcycle crashes. The steps below can help a family protect the record while the investigation is still open.

  • Ask the Glenville Police Department how to request the crash report and the reconstruction findings once they are released. Those records anchor every later step.
  • Ask that the motorcycle, the car, and the rider’s helmet and gear not be released, repaired, or salvaged yet. Physical evidence cannot be recreated.
  • Note homes and businesses along Saratoga Road that may have cameras. Footage is often overwritten within days.
  • Send calls from insurance adjusters to one family member or to a lawyer. Early recorded statements can be used against a claim later.
  • Order several certified copies of the death certificate, since banks, insurers, and employers each ask for one.
  • Keep every receipt for medical care, funeral, and burial costs. These expenses can be part of a claim.

Failure to Yield and Fatal Motorcycle Crashes in New York

Police said the car pulled out from a side road into the path of the motorcycle. Investigators are still examining the crash, and no fault finding has been announced. In New York, a driver entering a through road from a side road generally must yield to traffic already on it.

Motorcycle cases often turn on speed, sight lines, and whether the driver saw the rider. Reconstruction findings, vehicle data, and witness accounts usually answer those questions. Riders are sometimes blamed unfairly, which makes the evidence matter even more.

When a rider dies, the estate’s personal representative can bring a wrongful death claim. It can cover funeral costs, lost income and support, and the guidance a child would have received. A separate survival claim can cover the rider’s pain and suffering before death.

  • Who may be liable: the car’s driver and, under Vehicle and Traffic Law § 388, the vehicle’s owner if that is someone else.
  • What the evidence decides: where each vehicle was positioned, what the driver could see, how fast each vehicle was moving, and any camera footage.
  • If fault is shared: for motor vehicle cases, New York bars recovery when the rider’s share of fault equals or exceeds the combined fault of the others responsible (CPLR § 1411).
  • Deadlines: a wrongful death claim generally must be filed within two years of the date of death, which here is October 15, 2028 (EPTL § 5-4.1). The survival claim generally has three years, to October 15, 2029 (CPLR § 214).
