Five People Injured, Two Airlifted AfterThree-Car Crash

Petersburgh, New York (June 14, 2026) – Five people were injured, two of them airlifted, after a three-car crash on New York State Route 2 near River Road, according to the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene at about 2:10 p.m. on June 14, 2026. Authorities said a Jeep was traveling westbound on Route 2 when it struck an eastbound Chevrolet. The Chevrolet then collided with a Ford traveling behind it, according to the sheriff’s office.

All five injured people were taken for medical care. Victims were transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and Albany Medical Center, according to law enforcement. Two required airlift transport.

The crash closed all lanes of Route 2 near River Road for several hours. The roadway reopened just before 8 p.m., according to law enforcement.

An investigation remains ongoing, according to the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office.

This is a developing story. Details may change as the investigation continues.

When a crash sends multiple people to the hospital, the questions about liability, insurance coverage, and medical costs don’t wait. Knowing your options early protects your ability to act.

Multi-Vehicle Car Accidents in New York

A three-car collision creates a more complicated claims picture than a standard two-vehicle crash. Multiple drivers, their insurers, and potentially vehicle owners may each share some portion of responsibility for injuries caused.

  • Get medical attention today, even without obvious injuries. Concussions, internal trauma, and soft tissue damage from crash impact often appear hours or days later, and early documentation anchors any future claim.
  • Do not give statements to the other drivers’ insurance companies. Their adjusters work for their insured, not for you. Any statement you provide can be used to reduce or deny your claim.
  • Preserve all evidence from the start. Photograph the scene, your vehicle, road conditions, and your injuries. Keep every police report, medical record, and repair estimate you receive.
  • Do not sign or accept any settlement before speaking with an attorney. Early offers from insurers are rarely full value, and accepting one closes your right to pursue more.

New York follows a pure comparative negligence standard. Even if an investigation finds you share some responsibility for the crash, that finding reduces your damages rather than eliminating your right to recover them.

Under New York law, most personal injury claims must be filed within three years of the accident date (CPLR § 214). For this crash, that deadline is June 14, 2029. Physical evidence from crash scenes disappears quickly, and delay gives insurers the advantage.
