Multi-Vehicle Crash in New York
After a collision, medical bills and insurance questions need attention. Start by identifying which coverage applies to your injuries.
For eligible vehicle occupants, New York’s no-fault insurance can cover necessary medical expenses. It can also reimburse some lost earnings, subject to applicable limits. These benefits generally apply regardless of who caused the collision. Coverage exclusions and eligibility requirements still matter.
Injured occupants generally submit no-fault claims to the insurer covering their occupied vehicle. Written notice is usually required within 30 calendar days after the crash. Late notice requires written proof providing a clear, reasonable justification. Do not delay reviewing these requirements while questions about fault remain unresolved.
A separate claim against a responsible driver involves additional legal requirements. New York generally requires a qualifying serious injury for pain-and-suffering compensation. A news report’s “non-life-threatening” description does not resolve that legal question. The medical evidence must be evaluated against the applicable statutory requirements.
