Southeast, NY – Jaclyn L. Hamill (43) Killed in Head-On Collision with Moving Truck

Jaclyn L. Hamill (43) Killed in Head-On Collision

Southeast, NY (December 16, 2025) – Authorities have identified the woman killed in a tragic head-on collision involving a sedan and a commercial moving truck in Putnam County on Tuesday morning.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash occurred at approximately 7:11 a.m. at the intersection of Deans Corner Road and Turk Hill Road. The victim, Jaclyn L. Hamill, 43, of New York City (formerly of Brewster), was operating a 2016 Honda Civic traveling southbound on Deans Corner Road. According to preliminary reports, as Hamill was negotiating a curve, her vehicle crossed the double yellow centerline into the northbound lane, striking an oncoming commercial moving truck.

Ms. Hamill was pronounced deceased at the scene; emergency responders later had to extricate her from the heavily damaged vehicle. The two occupants of the moving truck were not injured in the impact. The New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit is assisting the Sheriff’s Office with the ongoing investigation into the exact cause of the crash.

Understanding Liability and Comparative Negligence in Centerline Crossings

This fatal collision presents a complex legal scenario regarding liability, as the preliminary investigation by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office suggests the deceased driver crossed the double yellow centerline. In New York, a “centerline crossover” is often considered prima facie evidence of negligence; however, a comprehensive investigation by an accident reconstruction team is necessary to determine if external factors contributed to the lane departure.
