Three Killed, Three Injured in Christmas Day Head-On Collision

Howard Township, PA (December 25, 2025) – A devastating head-on collision on North Eagle Valley Road (Route 150) claimed the lives of three people and left three others hospitalized on Christmas afternoon. According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Rockview, the accident occurred at approximately 2:26 p.m. just south of Swartz Hollow Road in Howard Township.

The crash involved a 2009 Pontiac G6 traveling northbound and a 2012 Nissan Pathfinder traveling southbound. Preliminary investigations indicate that both vehicles crossed the center line simultaneously, resulting in a high-impact, front-end collision. The driver of the Pontiac and two of its passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. Among the deceased were a student from the Keystone Central School District and both of the student’s parents. Two other juvenile passengers in the Pontiac sustained life-threatening injuries and were air-lifted by medical helicopters to a regional trauma center. The driver of the Nissan was also transported to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

North Eagle Valley Road was closed for approximately five hours between Howard and the entrance to Bald Eagle State Park while the State Police Reconstruction Unit processed the scene. Emergency crews from Howard, Pleasant Gap, Bellefonte, and Blanchard assisted at the site.

Liability and Wrongful Death in Simultaneous Center-Line Crossings

This tragic incident presents a complex legal scenario regarding liability, as preliminary reports suggest that both vehicles crossed the center line. In Pennsylvania, determining fault in a head-on collision is essential for personal injury and wrongful death claims. Under the state’s modified comparative negligence standard, a victim’s estate can recover damages as long as the victim (or their driver) was not more than 50% at fault for the crash. If both drivers are found to have shared responsibility, the total compensation awarded to the families would be reduced by the percentage of fault assigned to their respective drivers.
