Westport, NY (Oct. 2, 2026) – A bus and tractor-trailer collision injured two drivers Friday morning on northbound I-87. New York State Police responded around 6:08 a.m. Both drivers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to CVPH for treatment.
Michel Pisarski, 64, of Longueuil, Quebec, operated the 2022 Adirondack Trailways bus. Investigators said the northbound bus struck the trailer of a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer. Nobody else was aboard the bus.
Timothy A. Zabek, 48, of Greenfield, Massachusetts, was driving the tractor-trailer. Police said he lost control after the collision. The truck entered the eastern shoulder, continued forward, and struck trees before stopping.
The investigation remains ongoing. Details may change as authorities release additional information.
We wish both injured drivers a smooth recovery.
Legal Options After a Bus and Truck Accident in New York
Commercial vehicle injury claims require evidence connecting another party’s negligence to your injuries. Available dashcam footage, driver logs, and vehicle data may help establish what happened. Maintenance records and witness accounts can also support an investigation. Requesting preservation of these materials helps protect evidence needed to evaluate a claim.
Drivers injured while working may also qualify for workers’ compensation. Eligible New York workers can receive medical care and wage-replacement benefits. Employment circumstances and applicable coverage require individual review before assuming benefits are available.
New York law may also permit claims against negligent parties outside the worker’s employment. Workers’ compensation does not automatically replace a potential claim against another responsible driver. However, these claims require coordination, including reviewing possible reimbursement and settlement-approval requirements.
Pain-and-suffering compensation generally requires a qualifying serious injury under New York motor-vehicle law. A report describing injuries as “non-life-threatening” does not resolve that legal question. That assessment requires medical evidence and review of the applicable legal requirements.
