Bethlehem, NY (August 8, 2025) – New York State Police are investigating a crash involving a trooper on I-87 northbound in the Town of Bethlehem. The incident occurred around 8:44 a.m. when Trooper Kristen R. Sullivan was conducting a traffic stop, and her patrol vehicle was struck on the driver’s side by a 2017 Subaru Forester.
Trooper Sullivan sustained minor injuries, including back and neck pain, and was transported to Albany Medical Center for treatment. She is expected to be released shortly.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the Subaru was traveling in the left lane when the driver swerved onto the shoulder to avoid a tractor trailer changing lanes. The driver then over-corrected, lost control, and struck Trooper Sullivan’s patrol vehicle and the vehicle from the initial traffic stop. The tractor trailer was located and stopped shortly after the incident.
At the time of the crash, Trooper Sullivan was participating in Speed Awareness Week, a high-visibility enforcement initiative aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of speeding. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
Our thoughts are with Trooper Sullivan, and we wish her a swift recovery.
