Pedestrian Killed in Crash on Route 9 in Colonie Identified as Felipa Martinez Garcia

Colonie, NY – A woman was tragically struck and killed by a vehicle early Friday morning on Route 9 in Colonie. The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Felipa Martinez-Garcia of Latham, according to the Colonie Police Department.

The fatal collision occurred around 5:00 a.m. on a snowy stretch of Route 9, just north of Troy Schenectady Road. A Colonie Police officer reportedly heard the crash and rushed to the scene. Bystanders were performing CPR on Martinez-Garcia when first responders arrived, but she was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash prompted immediate road closures between Latham Circle, Troy Schenectady Road, Erin Street, and NY State Route 2. According to 511NY, the closure was first reported at 5:12 a.m. and was lifted after the scene was cleared later in the morning.

Lieutenant Thomas Breslin of the Colonie Police confirmed that the driver involved remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses is being reviewed, and officials are requesting additional evidence from the public.

“We are conducting a full investigation into what happened here to try to figure out the cause,” Lt. Breslin said. “If anyone has dash cam or surveillance footage of the incident or the area at that time, we urge them to contact us.”

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Felipa Martinez-Garcia. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragedy.
