Midtown Manhattan, NY (October 21, 2025) – Ten people were hospitalized Monday afternoon following a violent chain-reaction crash in Midtown Manhattan involving a Ryder box truck, a parked van, and several pedestrians, according to FDNY officials.
The crash occurred around 4:00 p.m. 20th October, 2025 on Eighth Avenue between West 29th and 30th Streets, when the northbound box truck collided with a parked work van, causing it to lurch forward onto the sidewalk, where it struck eight pedestrians.
Authorities said ten people in total were injured, including one person critically. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as the Ryder truck swerved before hitting the van. Surveillance footage captured the van being violently pushed forward as pedestrians tried to escape the impact.
Emergency crews quickly responded, treating multiple victims on scene before transporting them to area hospitals. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is leading the ongoing investigation into what caused the crash, including whether speed, driver error, or mechanical failure played a role.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this frightening accident, and we wish each of them a full and speedy recovery.
