Bronx, NY (July 11, 2025) – One person was killed and six others were injured following a three-car collision Friday evening near 2063 Bartow Ave, close to The Mall at Bay Plaza in Co-op City.
The crash occurred around 5:25 p.m. when a silver Toyota Avalon, driven by a 79-year-old man, collided with a black Hyundai Sonata and a white Acura RDX before hitting a light pole. The Hyundai then struck an unoccupied vehicle.
The 79-year-old driver of the Toyota was taken to Jacobi Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. His 71-year-old female passenger sustained a serious head injury and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 38-year-old woman, and her 11-year-old passenger were also hospitalized but are expected to recover. The driver of the Acura, a 34-year-old woman, and her passengers, a 24-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, were also taken to Jacobi Hospital, but all three are expected to be okay.
Eyewitnesses described the crash as loud and terrifying, with one woman saying the impact noise made her jump.
Police have not made any arrests, and the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
