Camillus, NY (August 20, 2025) – State Police are investigating a fatal multi-vehicle crash that occurred Wednesday morning on West Genesee Street in the town of Camillus. The incident was reported at approximately 11:10 a.m.
A 2025 Chevrolet Trax, operated by 74-year-old Darlene A. Cushman of Syracuse, NY, was traveling eastbound when it crossed the center line and sideswiped a 2014 Toyota Sienna operated by 38-year-old Gabriel M. Cortesnieves of Syracuse, NY. The Chevrolet then continued into the westbound lane and struck a 2020 BMW 330 Series, driven by 16-year-old Adam R. Mere of Syracuse, NY, in a head-on collision. Cushman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Adam R. Mere and his 15-year-old passenger, Leanna M. Mere, were transported to Upstate University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Cortesnieves and his passenger, 38-year-old Itchaneria Estradacruz of Fulton, NY, were also transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit and Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to assist at the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
