Fultonville, NY (June 24, 2025) – A dump truck crashed into a home in Fultonville Tuesday morning after the driver suffered a medical emergency, according to New York State Police.
The incident occurred shortly after 7:30 a.m. when a 2025 Peterbilt dump truck, operated by a 63-year-old man from Fort Plain, was traveling eastbound on the Thruway. Authorities say the driver experienced a “coughing fit” and lost consciousness, causing the vehicle to veer off the roadway.
The truck crossed the left shoulder into the median, broke through the center guide rail, crossed all westbound lanes, and continued through the north-side guide rail. It then traveled down an embankment, through a wooded area, and crashed into a residence on Washington Street.
The impact destroyed the rear main bedroom of the home and ruptured a heating oil tank, resulting in a 150-gallon oil spill. At the time of the crash, a 51-year-old man and his two sons, ages 24 and 20, were inside the home but were not in the affected room. No injuries were reported among the residents.
The truck driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville for treatment.
State Police were assisted at the scene by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, Thruway Authority personnel, and the Fonda-Fultonville Fire Department. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation spill response team handled the cleanup of the ruptured oil tank.
The incident remains under investigation.
We extend our best wishes to those impacted and hope for a swift recovery for the injured driver.
