Hornellsville, N.Y. - Three Workers Injured in Crash at Active Work Zone on State Route 36

Hornellsville, N.Y. (June 11, 2025) – On June 11, 2025, at approximately 11:13 a.m., the New York State Police, along with the Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI), responded to a serious motor vehicle crash on State Route 36 southbound at County Route 70A in the town of Hornellsville, Steuben County.

The investigation revealed that a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, driven by 30-year-old Brooke A. Burdett of Arkport, NY, struck three New York State Department of Transportation (DOT) workers in an active work zone. The vehicle also collided with a DOT vehicle stationed at the site.

Two workers, ages 52 and 60, were transported by ambulance to St. James Hospital in Hornell. The third, age 30, was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. Thankfully, all three are expected to survive.

Members of the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) from the New York State Police are assisting in the investigation.

State Route 36 southbound remains closed at this time, with a detour in place. The investigation into the cause of the incident is ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured workers, and we wish them a swift and full recovery.
