LeRoy, NY (April 28, 2025) – A 65-year-old Rochester man was killed Monday evening in a crash involving a Vespa and a car at the intersection of Route 19 and the I-490 on-ramp in LeRoy, according to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. when the driver of a white Chrysler reportedly failed to stop at a posted stop sign and entered the path of the Vespa scooter. The Vespa, operated by Duane Girdner, collided with the car, causing him to be thrown into its side and pinned beneath the scooter.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, but Girdner was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries. The driver of the Chrysler was not injured.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the crash. No charges have been announced at this time.
