Mainesburg, PA (April 29, 2025) – A tragic crash involving a Towanda Area School District vehicle claimed the lives of the driver and a 9-year-old student on Tuesday afternoon in Tioga County, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
The fatal collision occurred around 2:20 p.m. along Route 6 near Bailey Road in eastern Tioga County. Authorities say the eastbound school vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a commercial vehicle.
The driver, identified as 66-year-old Ronald Wickmire, and a 9-year-old boy were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other students, ages 12 and 6, were flown to a medical facility with undisclosed injuries. No further information was provided about the commercial vehicle driver.
The crash remains under active investigation, and officials have not released additional details.
