Marcy, NY (May 21, 2025) – A collision occurred early Wednesday morning on the eastbound portion of I-90 near mile post marker 234.7 in the town of Marcy, resulting in a diesel spill and traffic disruptions.
At approximately 4:13 a.m., State Police responded to the scene of the accident, which involved a 2024 International tractor trailer driven by 30-year-old Darryl Gaines of Buffalo, NY. Investigations revealed that Gaines had fallen asleep while driving, causing the vehicle to veer off the north shoulder and strike a guide rail. The impact led to a spill of diesel fluid from the truck.
The New York State DEC Spill Response Team and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit were called to the scene to assist with cleanup efforts. Gaines was evaluated by EMS but declined transport to the hospital.
Traffic was temporarily diverted while debris was cleared and the vehicle was removed by Clinton Collision.
We extend our best wishes to the driver for a swift recovery and appreciate the efforts of the emergency teams who responded promptly to the scene.
