Albany, NY (October 2, 2025) – A deadly crash near the I-90 exit ramp on Everett Road in Albany left one man dead and prompted the arrest of 29-year-old Matthew Merriman of Rotterdam for driving under the influence.
Albany Police reported that around 5:45 p.m., 30th September, 2025, a northbound vehicle traveling on Everett Road struck a 34-year-old man who was exiting the I-90 off-ramp. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene; his identity is being withheld pending family notification.
Merriman, the driver of the vehicle, was arrested at the scene after officers observed signs of impairment. He was taken to Albany Medical Center for evaluation, with injuries reported as non-life-threatening.
Charges against Merriman include vehicular manslaughter, operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, two counts of reckless criminal mischief, and multiple traffic violations. He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and remanded to Albany County Jail.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
