New Paltz, NY (May 27, 2025) – A fatal motorcycle crash occurred early Tuesday morning on the New York State Thruway (Interstate 87) near exit 18 in the town of New Paltz. The incident was reported at approximately 7:43 a.m., prompting an immediate response from State Police Highland and emergency medical services.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Martin T. Muller, 62, of Mahopac, NY, was riding a 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle northbound on Interstate 87 when the rear tire blew out. The blowout caused the motorcycle to lose control, turning sideways and rolling in the left lane before coming to a stop. Muller was ejected from the motorcycle and landed about 80 feet south of the crash site.
New Paltz Rescue EMS arrived at the scene and initiated life-saving measures, transporting Muller to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
