Northampton County, PA (May 29, 2025) – A tragic crash on Route 22 in Northampton County on the night of May 29, 2025, resulted in the death of a passenger and left the driver hospitalized. The accident occurred shortly after 9:30 p.m. when a Mercedes-Benz, speeding in the right lane while attempting to pass another vehicle, side-swiped the other car, lost control, and collided with a tree.
The passenger of the Mercedes-Benz was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver was transported to St. Luke’s Bethlehem for treatment. The extent of the driver’s injuries remains unknown.
The crash caused a temporary closure of Route 22 westbound between Route 512 and Schoenersville Road for several hours as investigators worked to process the scene. The road was reopened around 4:00 a.m. on Friday.
A reconstruction unit has been assigned to the case, and further investigation is set to begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday. During this time, traffic on Route 22 westbound will be detoured onto Route 512 for approximately one hour.
Authorities have confirmed that the crash occurred in an area with a posted speed limit of 55 MPH, and there were no adverse weather conditions at the time of the incident.
