Two Injured After Emergency Vehicle Strikes Jeep

Saratoga County, NY (May 26, 2026) – Two people were injured Tuesday afternoon after a Saratoga County emergency vehicle struck a Jeep SUV at the entrance to Saratoga County Airport while responding to a fatal plane crash on the runway moments earlier, according to initial reports.

Emergency crews responded to the vehicle crash at approximately 1:55 p.m. at the intersection of Geyser and Greenfield Roads. A Saratoga County Office of Emergency Services Ford 150 pickup truck struck a white Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling eastbound on Geyser Road, causing the Jeep to roll over. Both drivers were transported by Malta-Stillwater EMS with non-life-threatening injuries, the truck driver to Albany Medical Center and the Jeep driver to Saratoga Hospital.

The vehicle crash was triggered by a fatal plane accident eight minutes earlier on the airport runway. A towed glider pitched upward during takeoff at 1:47 p.m., causing the towing aircraft, a single-engine Piper PA-25, to nose over and strike the runway, catching fire. The pilot, James R. Stewart, 58, of Caroga Lake, was identified by New York State Police and later passed away at Albany Medical Center that evening.

The Saratoga County Sheriff’s crash reconstruction unit is investigating the vehicle crash, and no charges have been announced. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) expects to release a preliminary report on the plane crash within 30 days.

Fatal Crash and Injury Claims in Saratoga County, New York

Car accidents involving government emergency vehicles can leave victims and families facing devastating loss alongside complex legal questions. Under New York law, when a government vehicle or agency is involved, strict notice deadlines — sometimes as short as 90 days — must be met before filing suit. Families may pursue claims seeking compensation for loss of financial support, companionship, and final expenses. New York follows a pure comparative negligence standard, meaning compensation may still be recovered even if a claimant bears some share of fault, with any award reduced proportionally.

Evidence such as dashcam footage, dispatch logs, and witness accounts can be lost or overwritten within days if not formally preserved, making it important to consult an experienced Upstate New York car accident attorney as soon as possible to protect your family’s rights and meet important legal deadlines.
