Town of Salina, NY (Sept 3, 2026) – A 21-year-old Syracuse man was seriously hurt in a crash in the Town of Salina earlier this month, and the driver whose car struck him has since died from his injuries.
According to New York State Police, the crash happened on September 3 around 1:25 p.m. at the intersection of Oswego Road and Liverpool Bypass Road. Troopers determined that 85-year-old Gary Zimmer, driving a 2015 Lexus south on Oswego Road, turned onto Liverpool Bypass Road directly in front of a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe. Police say Zimmer failed to yield the right of way, and the two vehicles collided.
Zimmer, his 84-year-old passenger, and the 21-year-old driver of the Hyundai were all taken to Upstate University Hospital with serious injuries. Zimmer died at the hospital on September 9, six days after the crash. The conditions of the other two people involved have not been released.
