Syracuse, NY (July 19, 2025) – At least six people were injured in a minivan rollover crash Saturday night on Interstate 81 North near Court Street, according to Syracuse police.
The crash occurred at approximately 7:36 p.m. when the minivan rolled over on the northbound side of I-81, just before Exit 22 (Court Street). Syracuse police, the Syracuse Fire Department, and a Northern Onondaga Volunteer Ambulance responded quickly to the scene.
Dispatchers confirmed that six individuals, including four children, were being treated for injuries. Fortunately, none of the injuries were reported as life-threatening.
Two right lanes of the highway were initially closed as emergency crews worked to clear the scene, but by 8:04 p.m., only one lane remained closed, causing some traffic delays.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash.
Our thoughts are with those who have been injured, and we wish them a swift and full recovery.
Car Accidents in Syracuse
Syracuse experiences a high volume of car crashes year-round, particularly along major routes such as Interstate 81, I-690, and Route 11. These corridors are often affected by lake-effect snow, sudden whiteouts, and heavy truck traffic, creating hazardous driving conditions across Onondaga County. Rear-end collisions, T-bone accidents at intersections like Erie Blvd and Thompson Road, and highway pileups are common. Given the city’s dense urban layout combined with unpredictable weather, accidents can lead to severe injuries, including concussions, fractures, internal trauma, and spinal cord damage.
Legal claims in Syracuse must comply with New York’s no-fault insurance laws, which can limit direct compensation unless you meet the “serious injury” threshold. Determining if you can step outside New York’s no-fault system requires a lawyer who knows local courts, insurers, and injury proof standards. This is especially critical when dealing with commercial vehicle crashes, municipal liability (e.g., poor road maintenance), or multi-vehicle disputes.
