Binghamton, NY – Multiple Crashes Reported on I-86 and Route 17 Amid Veterans Day Snowfall

Multiple crashes in Binghamton area

Binghamton, NY (November 11, 2025) – The season’s first Veterans Day snowfall led to multiple crashes across Broome County Tuesday morning as slick roads caused hazardous driving conditions, according to the New York State Police.

Authorities reported a series of crashes on Interstate 86 and State Route 17 around 9 a.m., affecting both eastbound and westbound traffic between Exits 71 and 68. The incidents occurred in areas including the Village of Johnson City, Town of Union, and Town of Vestal.

Responding agencies included New York State Police, the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, and police departments from Johnson City and Vestal, along with the Traffic Incident Management Unit. Troopers said there were three property damage crashes and two involving injuries, including one rollover accident. Fortunately, none of the injuries was reported to be life-threatening.

The crashes temporarily reduced traffic to a single lane in both directions, causing delays while crews cleared the roadways.

Winter Weather Crashes and Liability in New York

Even during snow and ice conditions, drivers are expected to adjust speed and maintain control of their vehicles. Under New York negligence law, motorists who fail to drive cautiously in hazardous conditions may still be held liable for damages or injuries resulting from a crash.
