Harrison Township, PA (December 21, 2025) – A person was transported to a Pittsburgh hospital on Sunday afternoon following a high-impact, two-vehicle collision that left a local fire station damaged. According to the Harrison Township Police and the Harrison Hills Volunteer Fire Company, emergency crews were dispatched to the intersection of Freeport Road and Altermoor Drive at approximately 3:32 p.m.
Preliminary reports indicate the accident involved a car attempting to turn left onto Freeport Road from Altermoor Drive and a pickup truck traveling southbound on Freeport Road. The force of the collision sent the car head-on into a utility pole outside the Harrison Hills Fire Station 169, while the pickup truck careened through one of the station’s five garage doors. The pickup truck subsequently caught fire inside the building, but the flames were quickly extinguished by an off-duty Freeport Fire-EMS firefighter who happened to be nearby. The driver of the car was rescued from his vehicle and taken to Allegheny General Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
Intersection Liability and Structural Damage Claims in Pennsylvania
A collision at the intersection involves complex questions of liability, particularly regarding right-of-way protocols for vehicles entering a main thoroughfare. In Pennsylvania, drivers attempting a left-hand turn onto a busy road like Freeport Road generally have a duty to yield to oncoming traffic that is close enough to constitute a hazard. Investigators will examine whether the driver entering from the side street failed to yield or if the southbound pickup truck was traveling at a speed that contributed to the severity of the impact and the subsequent building strike. Under Pennsylvania’s modified comparative negligence law, a victim can still recover damages as long as they are found to be 50% or less at fault for the incident.
