North Versailles, PA (January 6, 2026) – A North Versailles police officer and two civilians, including a child, were transported to local hospitals following a two-vehicle collision on Tuesday afternoon, January 6, 2026. The crash occurred just before 4:00 p.m. in the 700 block of Lincoln Highway (Route 30).
According to the Allegheny County Police Department, the North Versailles officer was actively responding to a medical emergency with emergency lights and sirens activated at the time of the crash. Preliminary evidence, including Ring camera footage from a nearby residence, shows the police cruiser traveling along Lincoln Highway when a passenger vehicle attempted to pull out from an intersection directly into the officer’s path. The cruiser was unable to avoid the collision, striking the vehicle.
The driver of the passenger vehicle and a child occupant were both transported to a nearby hospital; officials reported they are in stable condition. The officer was also taken to the hospital for evaluation and is listed in stable condition. The Allegheny County Police Collision Investigation Unit is currently leading the probe into the crash to determine the exact sequence of events.
Liability and Safety Standards in Emergency Vehicle Collisions
Accidents involving police cruisers responding to emergencies involve a complex interplay of Pennsylvania’s “Move Over” laws and the “Emergency Vehicle Exception.” Under Pennsylvania Vehicle Code § 3105, drivers of emergency vehicles are permitted to exceed speed limits and go through red lights when their sirens and lights are activated. However, this does not absolve the officer of the “duty to drive with due regard for the safety of all persons.” Conversely, other motorists have a strict legal obligation to yield the right-of-way to any emergency vehicle with its signals in operation.
