Manhattan, NY – 27-Year-Old Woman Killed by Wrong-Way Driver on Morton Street

Pedestrian Killed by Wrong-Way Driver

Manhattan, NY (December 4, 2025) – A 27-year-old woman from Cambridge, Massachusetts, was killed in a tragic New York City pedestrian accident on Thursday morning after she was struck by a driver traveling the wrong way on a one-way street.

Authorities reported the crash occurred around 8:30 a.m. on Morton Street at 7th Avenue South in the West Village. The victim was crossing the street when a black 2020 GMC Savana van, driven by a 61-year-old man, struck her head-on. The driver was reportedly traveling westbound on a one-way street designated for eastbound traffic when the collision occurred.

The woman was rushed to Bellevue Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after 9 a.m. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and no charges had been filed as of Thursday afternoon. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad continues to examine the circumstances, noting that speed and the driver’s direction of travel likely contributed to the tragic outcome. The victim’s name has not been released pending family notification.

Understanding Liability After a Wrongful Death Pedestrian Accident in New York

The law views driving the wrong way on a one-way street as an extreme act of negligence, which significantly strengthens a civil claim in a fatal pedestrian accident. In New York, the victim’s family may pursue a Wrongful Death claim to recover compensation for their losses.
