67 Years Old Driver Asleep at Wheel Crashes Pickup Truck into Home

Perry County, PA (December 8, 2025) – A driver fell asleep at the wheel and slammed his pickup truck into the home of a Perry County firefighter, according to a report from Pennsylvania State Police.

Troopers said the crash occurred when a 67-year-old driver of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, traveling north on Montour Road in Tyrone Township, fell asleep as he approached a right curve in the road. The truck traveled off the roadway, first ramming through a mailbox in the 200 block, and then crashing deep into a residential home in the 300 block.

Police reported the truck was lodged into the house, causing major structural damage. The incident is currently under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.

Understanding Liability After a Crash Caused by Drowsy Driving in Pennsylvania

A crash caused by a driver who falls asleep at the wheel establishes clear grounds for a civil liability claim against the driver for negligence. In Pennsylvania, a driver has a legal duty to maintain proper control of their vehicle, and falling asleep violates this fundamental duty of care. For the homeowner and any occupants who sustained injury, the sleeping driver is legally responsible for the damages.
