Baldwinsville, NY (May 19, 2025) – An 84-year-old woman, Deborah L. Irwin, tragically passed away from injuries sustained after being struck by a truck on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 5:28 p.m. on Lock Street in Baldwinsville.
According to the New York State Police, the driver, 63-year-old Richard L. Austin, was turning left onto Lock Street from a Dunkin’ parking lot when he failed to yield the right of way and struck Irwin. She was pinned under the truck and unconscious for several minutes until Baldwinsville firefighters arrived and manually lifted the vehicle to free her.
Irwin was transported by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital but sadly died from her injuries on Tuesday. Austin remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the North Syracuse Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
