Rochester, NY – Chain-Reaction Crash at East Ave & Alexander St After Red-Light Violation

Chain-reaction crash at Rochester intersection

Rochester, NY (November 19, 2025) – A three-vehicle collision caused by a red-light violation disrupted traffic Wednesday night at the busy intersection of East Avenue and Alexander Street, according to the Rochester Police Department.

Officers reported that one vehicle failed to stop at a red light around 7:15 p.m., striking a car already stopped at the intersection. The impact pushed that vehicle into a third car. The roadway was briefly blocked while crews cleared debris, but the area has since reopened.

Police confirmed that no serious injuries were reported, and no citations have been issued at this stage of the investigation.

Red-Light Crashes in New York

Running a red light is one of the most common causes of urban chain-reaction collisions. Even when injuries seem minor at the scene, delayed symptoms such as whiplash, concussion, and back injuries can appear hours or days later. Under New York law, drivers harmed by a traffic-signal violation may pursue compensation for medical costs, lost income, and vehicle damage. Establishing fault typically involves intersection cameras, witness statements, and police reports.
