Cecil Township, PA – Charles Amic Killed in Route 980 Centerline Crash

Charles Amic Killed in Route 980

Cecil Township, PA (March 10, 2026) — A head-on collision on Route 980 claimed the life of an Oakdale man and left two others hospitalized on Sunday night. The Washington County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as Charles Amic, 55.

According to investigators, the crash occurred at approximately 8:00 p.m. near the intersection of Route 980 and Clover Lane in Cecil Township. Preliminary findings indicate that Amic was traveling on Route 980 when his vehicle crossed the centerline and collided with an oncoming car.

The impact proved fatal for Mr. Amic, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his vehicle, as well as the driver of the oncoming car, sustained injuries and were transported by EMS to a regional hospital for treatment. Their current medical conditions have not been released. The Cecil Township Police Department is leading the ongoing investigation into why the vehicle left its lane.

Head-On Accident in Pennsylvania

Centerline crossover accidents are among the most dangerous types of collisions on two-lane roads like Route 980. In Pennsylvania, these incidents are viewed through the lens of the state’s “Choice No-Fault” insurance system. While all involved parties typically have access to “First Party Benefits” to cover immediate medical bills through their own policies, the right to seek additional damages for pain and suffering depends heavily on whether a driver has “Full Tort” or “Limited Tort” coverage—though “serious” injuries and death often waive these limitations.

In a head-on collision caused by a lane departure, liability usually rests with the driver who crossed the centerline. However, proving why the crossover occurred is essential for any legal claim. Investigators and legal teams look for evidence of distracted driving, mechanical failure, or a sudden medical emergency. Under Pennsylvania’s “Modified Comparative Negligence” rule, an injured passenger or the other driver may seek compensation as long as they were not more than 50% responsible for the incident.

When a life is lost, the Pennsylvania Wrongful Death and Survival Act allows the family of the deceased to seek compensation for funeral costs, medical bills, and the loss of future earnings and companionship. Taking prompt action is a necessary step to protect your rights and ensure that the financial and emotional burdens of a crash are handled with the care they deserve.
