Driver Killed After Crashing Deep into Woods Off I-283

Dauphin County, PA (December 5, 2025) – One person was killed following a single-vehicle crash into the woods off I-283 East in Dauphin County late Friday afternoon.

Emergency officials from the Londonderry Fire Company were dispatched to the area of mile marker 4.4 around 5:30 p.m. following reports that a vehicle had left the roadway and driven 20 to 30 yards deep into the dense woods. Crews encountered a challenging scene, as trees blocked the vehicle’s doors, requiring emergency personnel to use a chainsaw to cut a path to the crash site.

Once the driver was reached, they were pronounced dead on the scene. The identity of the deceased driver has not been released pending official notification of family members. The incident is currently under investigation to determine the cause of the vehicle’s departure from the highway.

Navigating Third-Party Liability After a Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in Pennsylvania

While single-vehicle crashes are often assumed to be the fault of the driver, the family of the deceased may still be entitled to pursue a Wrongful Death claim if negligence on the part of a third party contributed to the incident. A specialized legal investigation into this fatal I-283 crash must explore all contributing factors, including vehicle defect and roadway maintenance.
