Multi-vehicle crash closes portion of I-81

Watertown, NY (November 10, 2025) – Multiple vehicles were involved in a serious crash that closed a section of Interstate 81 northbound near Watertown Monday evening, according to local authorities.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near the County Route 190 overpass over the Black River just after 6:30 p.m. Officials confirmed that several ambulances were dispatched to the site and that injuries were reported, though the extent of those injuries remains unclear.

The northbound lanes of I-81 were closed between Exits 46 and 47 for over an hour while first responders provided medical assistance and cleared the wreckage. Traffic resumed around 7:45 p.m., according to Jefferson County dispatch.

Authorities have not released details regarding how many vehicles were involved or what caused the collision. The New York State Police and Jefferson County emergency services are investigating.

Multi-Vehicle Collisions and Liability in New York

Multi-vehicle crashes often result in complex liability cases, as multiple drivers and insurance carriers may be involved. Common causes include distracted driving, following too closely, poor weather conditions, or sudden slowdowns.

Under New York’s comparative negligence laws, each driver may share a portion of fault. Victims injured in such accidents can still recover damages even if partially at fault for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering.

Speaking with an experienced New York multi-vehicle accident attorney can help ensure victims protect their rights and receive the compensation they deserve.
