Hempstead, NY (November 2, 2025) – A 19-year-old driver, identified as Mia-Renee S. Edwards of Hempstead, was killed early Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash along the Southern State Parkway, according to the New York State Police.
The fatal accident occurred around 5:37 a.m. on 2nd November, 2025, in the westbound lanes near the Meadowbrook Parkway exit. Police said Edwards’ vehicle veered out of its lane, causing her to lose control and strike a tree along the side of the highway.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Edwards to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead from her injuries. Authorities have not reported any other injuries connected to the crash.
Multiple lanes of the Southern State Parkway were closed for several hours during the investigation and reopened around 10:55 a.m. New York State Police are urging anyone with information about the crash to contact them at 631-756-3300.
