Dauphin County, PA – Pedestrian Killed in Fatal Evening Crash on US 22 West

Pedestrian Killed in Fatal Evening Crash

Dauphin County, PA (December 14, 2025) – A fatal pedestrian crash occurred Saturday evening, December 13, in Dauphin County, resulting in the death of a 60-year-old woman.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:23 p.m. on the westbound lanes of United States Route 22, also known as Allentown Boulevard, near the intersection of North Oak Grove Road in West Hanover Township. According to the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), the pedestrian, a 60-year-old woman whose identity has not yet been released, entered the roadway while crossing the eastbound lanes and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound in the left lane. Troopers noted the pedestrian was moving at a fast pace and stepped into the vehicle’s path.

The driver of the vehicle, a 38-year-old man from Germany, was not injured. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dauphin County Coroner’s Office. The roadway, closed for several hours between Clover Lane and Blue Ridge Avenue, has since reopened as the investigation continues.

Analyzing Liability in Fatal Pedestrian Crashes on Major Roadways

A fatal pedestrian crash on a high-speed road like US Route 22, especially when the pedestrian reportedly entered the roadway while crossing traffic, raises complex questions of liability in a Wrongful Death claim under Pennsylvania law. While drivers have a general duty to be observant, pedestrians also have a duty not to enter a roadway where they may not be visible suddenly.
