Charlton, NY – Two Pedestrians Killed in Crash on Charlton Road

State Police investigate two pedestrians

Charlton, NY (November 25, 2025) – Two pedestrians were tragically killed after being struck by a vehicle late Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Charlton Road and Maple Avenue in Charlton.

New York State Police responded to the scene at approximately 5:18 p.m. for reports of the collision. Both pedestrians sustained severe injuries in the crash and were immediately transported to area hospitals. Police later confirmed that both individuals sadly succumbed to their injuries and were declared deceased at the hospital.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene following the crash and has been cooperative with law enforcement. Charlton Road was closed between Stage Road and Swaggertown Road for collision reconstruction and investigation, but the roadway has since been reopened. The investigation remains ongoing.

Pedestrian Fatalities and Wrongful Death in New York

Accidents resulting in pedestrian fatalities often involve complex investigations to determine fault and negligence. Under New York law, drivers owe a duty of care to pedestrians, and failure to exercise this duty, such as through distraction or speeding, can lead to severe liability.

For the surviving family members of the deceased, New York law allows for the pursuit of a wrongful death claim if negligence is found to be a contributing factor. A wrongful death claim seeks compensation for various economic and non-economic losses, including funeral costs, medical bills incurred before death, and the loss of financial support and guidance the deceased would have provided.

Early consultation with a qualified New York wrongful death attorney is critical to help preserve evidence and navigate the complex legal and insurance issues that arise following such a severe tragedy.
