Auburn, NY (September 15, 2025) – An Auburn Police patrol car was struck by a drunk driver Sunday afternoon, on September 14th, 2025, at the intersection of North Street and Seymour Street.
The incident occurred at approximately 3:49 p.m. when a marked police vehicle, operated by an officer on routine patrol southbound in the outside lane, was hit by a civilian vehicle traveling northbound. Michael Nielens, the driver, attempted a left turn onto Seymour Street in front of oncoming traffic, colliding with the patrol car. The airbags deployed in both vehicles due to the impact.
No serious injuries were reported, and the Auburn Police officer and Nielens were evaluated at the scene. Authorities confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the crash, and the driver was cited.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Emergency responders cleared the scene, and traffic resumed shortly after the collision.
