Newport, NY – Rodney K. Dodge, 59, Killed in Head-On Crash on Butler Road

Newport, NY (October 2, 2025) – A head-on collision on Butler Road in Newport, Herkimer County, resulted in the death of 59-year-old Rodney K. Dodge of Utica.

According to New York State Police, the crash occurred just after 9:15 p.m., September 30th, 2025, when Jordan F. Doxtader, 32, of Newport, lost control of his 2011 Chevrolet Silverado while navigating a sharp curve. His vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a 2024 Ford Transit Connect driven by Dodge.

Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene. One passenger in the Ford, 27-year-old Dale R. Dodge, was transported to Wynn Hospital in Utica with non-life-threatening injuries. Doxtader was airlifted by Mercy Flight to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where his injuries were also reported as non-life-threatening.

Emergency responders from the Newport Fire Department, Mercy Flight, and Kuyahoora Valley Ambulance assisted at the scene. The New York State Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
