Oneida County, NY (October 4, 2025) – A deadly tractor-trailer crash occurred on State Route 49 in the City of Rome, Oneida County, on Friday morning, 3rd October, 2025. The driver of a dump-style tractor-trailer, loaded with stone-type material, lost control while taking the off-ramp to Martin Street, causing the vehicle to drift off the western side of the ramp, strike the guardrail, and roll over.
Emergency responders from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Rome Fire Department, and AmCare Ambulance arrived promptly. Medical personnel pronounced the driver dead at the scene.
The Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit and Forensic Unit are investigating the circumstances of the accident. The identity of the driver has not yet been released.
The exit ramp remains closed as authorities inspect the bridge for structural safety and to prevent further incidents.
