Lackawanna, NY – Fiery Tractor-Trailer Crash Shuts Down I-90 Eastbound, One Driver Injured

Fiery tractor-trailer crash stops traffic on I-90

Lackawanna, NY (October 27, 2025) – A fiery crash involving two tractor-trailers shut down Interstate 90 eastbound in Lackawanna early Sunday morning, causing heavy traffic delays and significant damage to one of the vehicles.

The collision occurred just before 3:26 a.m. on 26th October, 2025, near the Lackawanna Toll Gantry, according to New York State Police. One tractor-trailer became engulfed in flames, while the second sustained rear-end damage. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Emergency crews, including the Scranton Volunteer Fire Company from Hamburg, arrived quickly to contain and extinguish the blaze. Flames had consumed most of the rear section of the burning trailer, leaving only a skeletal frame.

Authorities confirmed that one driver suffered minor injuries and was treated on scene. All eastbound lanes were closed as of 3:33 a.m., and traffic was backed up for several miles. Crews worked through the early morning hours, and by 4:45 a.m., officials expected to reopen the roadway within the hour.
