Lorraine, NY (September 23, 2025) – A 16-year-old boy sustained serious injuries in a dirt bike crash Saturday afternoon near Hessel Road in the town of Lorraine, Jefferson County.
The incident occurred around 12:46 p.m., 20th September 2025, when the boy, riding alone on trails, struck a fallen tree that partially blocked the path, resulting in a partial amputation of his lower leg. Loved ones attempted to locate him using a UTV while police, EMS, and fire personnel were dispatched.
Sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Snyder found the teenager around 1:09 p.m., applied a tourniquet to stabilize his leg, and helped remove him from the wooded area to a waiting ambulance. The injured boy was then transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Emergency responders at the scene included the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, Adams, Lorraine, and Mannsville fire departments, South Jefferson Rescue Squad, Mercy Flight, and several family members and neighbors. The boy’s name and address have not been released due to his status as a juvenile.
