Riverhead, NY (September 29, 2025) – A 16-year-old driver was killed in a single-vehicle crash Saturday at 9:22 p.m., 27th September, 2025 on Sound Avenue just east of Horton Avenue in Calverton, Riverhead.
Police reported that a maroon Honda Civic traveling eastbound struck a tree located in front of 3059 Sound Avenue. The driver, a Riverhead resident, was transported by Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where they were pronounced deceased.
Portions of Sound Avenue were closed while detectives and the New York State Police Accident Reconstruction Team investigated the scene. Authorities continue to determine the circumstances that led to the crash.
