Pembroke, NY (August 22, 2025) – A tour bus returning to New York City from Niagara Falls crashed and rolled on its side Friday on Interstate 90 eastbound in Pembroke, New York, killing five passengers and injuring many others. The incident occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m., approximately 25 miles east of Buffalo.
The bus, carrying 54 passengers aged 1 to 74, reportedly lost control after the driver became distracted and overcorrected, causing the vehicle to go into the right shoulder and flip onto its side. Multiple passengers were ejected, and several became trapped inside the overturned bus before being rescued. Dozens of injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals, though authorities reported that no other injuries appeared to be life-threatening.
State police confirmed that all five passengers pronounced dead at the scene were adults. The driver survived and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that mechanical failure and driver impairment were not factors.
Many of the passengers were of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino descent, prompting authorities to bring translators to assist during the emergency response. The investigation into the cause of the rollover remains ongoing.
