Brighton, NY (September 10, 2025) – A 67-year-old man was killed in a fatal collision involving his 1973 Chevrolet Corvette and a garbage truck on I-590 southbound in the town of Brighton, Monroe County. The crash occurred around 2:52 p.m. on Tuesday, September 9th, 2025.
According to the State Police in Rochester, the Corvette attempted to pass a 2016 International Harvester garbage truck when it struck the vehicle. The impact forced the Corvette to the right, where it became wrapped around the front of the garbage truck, causing the Corvette to catch fire.
The Corvette driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The garbage truck driver, Jennifer A. Somora, 43, of Spencerport, NY, and her passenger, Cristian Prosper Ruiz, 22, of Rochester, NY, were uninjured, and no signs of impairment were observed.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the crash, including whether traffic, speed, or other factors played a role.
